Fake council tax refund emails warning

A new council tax scam is targeting people by email claiming they are owed a refund, in an attempt to get them to hand over their bank details.

The emails ask recipients to follow a link and fill in their details, but takes them to a website run by the scammers who can then use the personal information to steal money.

The emails are signed from a fake name - Andrew Walsh, Head of Communication Services - but the signature image shows that the email is from "Alison Walsh". Councils across the country are warning residents not to be fooled by the phishing scams.

Council Tax is a tax set by local authorities to meet their budget requirement. It helps pay for the services Slough Borough Council provides for the residents of Slough.
