Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education (SACRE)

The Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education (SACRE) is responsible for the Locally Agreed Syllabus and takes a keen interest in all aspects of Religious Education (RE) in schools in Slough.

The role and responsibilities of SACRE are to:

  • advise the authority on RE in accordance with the agreed syllabus
  • monitor the provision and quality of RE taught in the local area
  • consider and decide on applications made by any Slough school on whether it is appropriate for the requirement for Christian collective worship to apply for that school
  • provide advice and support on the effective teaching of RE, such as choice of teaching material and the provision of teacher training
  • consider and take any action in relation to a complaint on worship or religious education, as assigned by the local authority
  • co-operate and meet with members of other SACREs in the area
  • publish an annual report on its work and on actions taken by its representative groups
